The Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) are part of the Vicenza Health Clinic with a mission to assist military and civilian personnel who have a child (from birth to 21 years) with developmental, behavioral or educational needs. EDIS is composed of two distinct services; Early Intervention Service (EIS) for children birth to 3 years of age, and Related Services (RS) for children and students 3 to 21 years of age. With parent permission, EDIS provides observations, screenings, evaluations, and intervention services for children birth to 3 years of age, with a qualifying delay or medical condition. EIS assists families in developing an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) that identifies family goals and needs with regard to the child’s development. For older children, 3 to 21 years, RS works with the school and family to develop an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for children who qualify for special education services.

EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES (EIS) EIS provides information, support and services to families when there is concern about how their infant or toddler is developing. Services are provided in the child’s “Natural Environment”; i.e. the home, Child Development Center, and other locations where the child spends most of his/her day. Families may seek EIS services for concerns in the developmental areas of communication, problem solving, social, motor and daily functioning and also with issues related to behavior, feeding, sleeping and medical problems that may impact the child’s development. All children of military and civilian personnel who are eligible for DoDDS enrollment as space required, when they become school age. This includes individuals in the Vicenza, Ghedi and Livorno (Camp Darby) military communities. Parents are encouraged to contact EDIS directly or can be referred by their primary care physician

RELATED SERVICES (RS) Related Services support the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) special education program. EDIS Related Service providers offer a variety of services, i.e. Occupational and Physical Therapy and Behavioral Health Services, to students and teachers with the purpose of assisting the students in obtaining their individual educational goals. All children of military and civilian personnel who are eligible for DoDDS Special Educational Services that have an IEP qualify for RS services Families should contact their child’s classroom teacher regarding educational concerns. For educational and developmental concerns for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years, the Child Find Coordinator at the local DoDD School is the point of contact.
