Army Public Health Nurses (APHNs) assess the health needs of the military community and provide support, education, and clinical services directed toward the promotion of healthy lifestyles and prevention of illness and injury. This is achieved through developing and maintaining positive attitudes toward health. The area of practice for the Army Public Health Nurse is in the classroom, the unit, and other community locations, as well as in the clinic. We offer various health promotion classes including HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections prevention. All active duty family members, retirees, and other authorized beneficiaries are invited to make use of the services offered by Army Public Health Nursing. Clients/patients are seen by appointment (please give us a call) or referral.

Some of the Army Public Health Nursing key programs are:

1. Communicable Diseases/Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): providing education and counseling on communicable diseases to include STIs and HIV/AIDS; coordinating and conducting STI screenings; conducting contact interview investigations, notification, and testing of contacts; ensuring treatment and follow-up of patients with any communicable diseases. All information discussed with the Army Public Health Nurse is confidential.

2. Child and Youth Services (CYS): serving as a health consultant to the Child and Youth Services, to include Child Development Centers, Family Child Care Homes, School Age Services, and Youth Services; serving as a core member of the Multidisciplinary Inclusion Action Team to ensure the health and welfare of children while participating in CYS programs; conducting health inspections of facilities and providing training to CYS staff.
3. Latent Tuberculosis Infections (LTBI): providing education, counseling, and case management to patients with latent tuberculosis infections.

4. Health Promotion: providing health education to patients, providers, and support staff; coordinating community outreach events to promote health and wellness awareness within the community; conducting community needs health assessments and implementation of new programs, such as the Performance Triad and Tobacco Free Living, to promote health in the communities.

5. Rabies Prevention program: ensuring bite report cases are evaluated and treated in a timely manner based on risk.
